Controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who was arrested for allegedly spreading misinformation against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli using fake documents, will face investigation under the Electronic Transactions Act.
According to Hobindra Bogati, spokesperson for the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, Prasai was apprehended on charges of making serious allegations against Prime Minister Oli. The investigation will proceed under provisions related to cybercrime.
Previously, a cybercrime arrest warrant had been issued against Prasai by the Kathmandu District Court. Acting on the warrant, the CIB took him into custody.
He was arrested today from his residence in Bhaktapur. Notably, this is not the first time Prasai has faced legal action. On Ashwin 6 (September 23), he was detained for defamation of a woman on social media. He was later released on bail following a court order.
