Kanguva’ Fails to Impress: Suriya’s Film Struggles to Reach 100 Crores Worldwide

Suriya’s much-anticipated film Kanguva has turned out to be a massive disappointment following its four-day extended opening weekend.

Despite generating significant buzz prior to its release for various reasons, the film failed to generate any genuine excitement among audiences.

From the very first day, the movie underperformed, and with negative reviews pouring in, it experienced a sharp decline from day two onwards. Over the weekend, Kanguva struggled to cross the 85-crore mark at the global box office.

With an extravagant budget, the film was expected to perform exceptionally well, but that simply did not happen. On its opening day, it grossed over 30 crores globally, which was a lackluster start.

The situation worsened as the film received poor reviews and negative word-of-mouth spread quickly, leading to a significant drop in collections. Even in Tamil Nadu, Suriya’s home state, the film failed to make an impact, and its performance was disappointing.

In India, Kanguva managed to collect just 53.65 IRS crores net, showing only a minor increase on day four (Sunday), with the collection rising to 10.50 crores, up from 9.90 IRS crores on Saturday.

Including taxes, the Indian gross stands at 63.30 crores. Overseas, the film’s performance was equally underwhelming, grossing only 21 crores. Combining the Indian and overseas earnings, the worldwide total stands at 84.30 crores after four days.

Worldwide Collection Breakdown:

India net: 53.65 IRS crores
India gross: 63.30 IRS crores
Overseas gross: 21 IRS crores
Worldwide gross: 84.30 IRS crores

Moving forward, the film’s performance is expected to decline further, with most theatres likely to drop it after a week.

The only silver lining for Kanguva is the slim chance of reaching the 100-crore mark globally, though this seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, the colossal failure of Kanguva has worked in favor of Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran, which will secure more screens starting this Friday.
