In 2014, the term ‘viral’ was not as commonly used as it is today. It was slowly gaining traction. That year, without much hype or promotion, an unknown director and relatively unpopular actors released the lyrical video of a film song—Pari Tyo Dada Ma.
As soon as the song was released, it broke all records of popularity, surpassing expectations. Nepali audiences, who were gradually getting accustomed to YouTube, set new standards for popularity through view counts.
The viral song was from the debut film Resham Filili, directed by Pranab Joshi. The song’s immense popularity made the film one of the most anticipated of the year. It was released on April 24, 2015. The film had a promising start at the box office, but the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal the next day forced temporary closures of cinemas, preventing the film from reaching its full potential.
Now, nearly a decade later, the sequel is set to hit the big screen on February 26, 2025 (Fagun 14).
As the release date approaches, the filmmakers are gearing up by releasing the sequel to the iconic song Jaalma, whose shooting was recently completed. The first look of the new song, titled Feri Jaalma, has been unveiled.
In the released image, lead actors Vinay Shrestha and Supushpa Bhatt Kadel are seen in a romantic mood, sitting with their hands intertwined in front of a tree decorated with colorful umbrellas.
The original musical and vocal team of Jaalma is returning for the sequel. The song is composed by Kali Prasad Baskota, with lyrics by Manas Raj. The vocals are provided by Kali Prasad Baskota and Somiya Baraili. The choreography is done by Pradeep Lama, and the cinematography is handled by Shivaram Shrestha.
The production team is confident that the sequel song will achieve the same level of success as the original.
The film is written and directed by Niroj Maharjan and produced in collaboration between Cinema Art and V Motion Pictures. The producer of the film is Raunak Bikram Kadel, with Suraj Bam Thakuri as the executive producer and Ani Thapa as the co-producer.
The cast includes Vinay Shrestha, Supushpa Bhatt, Nir Shah, Kameshwar Chaurasiya, Prakash Ghimire, Shishir Wangdel, Rabindra Jha, Laxmi Giri, Mahesh Tripathi, Avinraj Upreti, Mexam Goudel, Prakash Ghimire, Sajan Thapa, and others. Most of the original team from Resham Filili is back, except for director Pranab Joshi and actress Menuka Pradhan.
The film features cinematography by Susan Prajapati, a screenplay by Maharjan and Aakash Baral, action direction by Naresh King Yogi, music by Kali Prasad Baskota, SD Yogi, Harka Saud, Jayan J Waiba, and Deepak Sharma, and editing by Surendra Paudel.
The film will be distributed by Gobinda Shahi’s Kafiya Films and Kuber Cine Distribution.
