‘Actor’ vs. ‘Actor: Take One’ – Producers Take Legal Action Over Title Dispute

The title dispute between the film Actor, released on Magh 4, and Actor: Take One, set to release this Wednesday, has reached the court.

The producers of Actor filed a writ petition at the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday, seeking to halt the release of Actor: Take One, starring Pradeep Khadka in the lead role.

Samrat Thapa, representing Actor’s presenting company, Nepali Diaspora Entertainment, filed the petition, claiming copyright infringement and demanding compensation. He stated that producing another film under the same name was unethical and could cause significant financial and business losses.

According to the petition, the release of Actor: Take One has created confusion among the audience, preventing Actor from achieving expected commercial success. It also mentions that the producers had plans to screen the film abroad, which could now be impacted. Therefore, they have requested the court to order a name change for Actor: Take One.

The petition further demands an immediate stay order to prevent the release of Actor: Take One, stating that if it is released on the scheduled date of Magh 16, the purpose of the lawsuit would be defeated. Thus, it urges the court to halt the release until a final verdict is reached.

Meanwhile, Actor has already been declared a box office disaster, failing to attract audiences in most theaters. Directed by Madan Ghimire, the film features actors such as Prince Thapa, Kashish Dahal, Saroj Khanal, and Manisha Pandey.

On the other hand, Actor: Take One, directed by debutant Rajan Bhusal, has generated significant buzz through its trailer and songs. The film stars Pradeep Khadka, Anna Sharma, Divya Rayamajhi, Raj Ballav Koirala, Sushil Sitaula, and Nischal Basnet. Produced by Thaman Bhandari, the film has been highly anticipated by the audience.

With the legal case now underway, uncertainty looms over the release of Actor: Take One.
