Diwakar Bhattarai’s film ‘Mayavi’ is set to release on February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
So far, three songs and several posters of the film have been released.
Director Bhattarai feels that the audience’s excitement for the film has grown with these releases, which has fueled his enthusiasm as well.
Having previously directed films like ‘Mero Jeewan Sathi,’ ‘Stupid Mann,’ ‘Dreams,’ and ‘Captain’, Bhattarai has consistently focused on love stories. This time, too, he presents another romantic tale, calling it “a story from his heart that he has always wanted to tell.”
Thus, he describes ‘Mayavi’ in this way:
“In a literal sense, ‘Mayavi’ means a beautiful illusion—an attraction. Love is something the world cannot detach from; it binds everything together. ‘Mayavi’ is a symbol of love. Be it parents, children, lovers—everyone experiences sacrifice and passion. This is what ‘Mayavi’ portrays.”
Bhattarai believes that stories of sacrifice in love are more powerful than stories of love itself:
“More than stories of love gained, the world values stories of love sacrificed. ‘Mayavi’ is about characters who find joy even in pain. Our film is built on this theme of sacrifice in love.”
The film tells the story of a middle-class family in and around Pokhara. Bhattarai adds:
“You may find something and lose it, but sometimes, even in losing, you gain—that is Mayavi.”
He claims that the audience will experience a different kind of love story this time:
“Happiness and comfort are different things. Sometimes, in the pursuit of comfort, we lose our happiness. ‘Mayavi’ explores how a simple person can find true happiness and fulfillment. What brings joy differs from person to person—while a wealthy person may find happiness in making money, an ordinary person may feel joy just by buying new clothes. This is the essence of our film.”
Bhattarai is deeply satisfied with this project. When asked why, he explains:
“This film is made from my heart. I am a romantic filmmaker, and ‘Mayavi’ is the story I truly wanted to tell. I consider this film as the real beginning of my career. In my previous films, I was just directing; I didn’t tell my own story. But with ‘Mayavi,’ I want to define myself as a filmmaker.”
He further reveals that he did not envision any specific lead actors while writing the script. Instead, he wrote the story around a character named ‘Joy’, shaping the screenplay with that vision in mind.
Regarding the film’s box office performance, Bhattarai says he is ready to accept whatever outcome comes his way. Since he is content with how the film has turned out, he remains relaxed about its commercial fate.
‘Mayavi’ portrays the happiness of a simple family in Pokhara, starring Paul Shah, Deepika Prasai, Prashant Tamrakar, Sushil Sitaula, Karishma Shrestha, and others.
Director Bhattarai believes that after watching the film, audiences will discover a fresh perspective on love.
