How did ‘Dhundhukari’ from ‘Meri Bassai’ end up in ‘Hostel 3’?

The trailer of the upcoming Nepali movie Hostel 3, scheduled to be released on Falgun 23, has sparked a lot of discussion. The film has gained further attention after it topped YouTube’s trending list in Nepal and also trended in about 20 countries, including India.

The movie features key roles played by popular social media personality Paras Bam, known as ‘Coolboy’, Ashish Ghimire, known as ‘Dhundhukari’, Padam Tamang, Rihan Giri, Simran Pant, Hena Nagarkoti, Sama Parajuli, Santosh Baniya, Umar Khan, Rohan Shrestha, and others. For all these actors, Hostel 3 is their debut film.

Among the lead actors, Ashish Ghimire began his acting career at the age of one and a half with the serial Geetanjali. At the age of six, he became famous for his role as ‘Dhundhukari’ in the popular comedy TV serial Meri Bassai, where he acted for five years. After that, he played the role of childhood Sandeep in the movie Signature and also acted in the serial Jureli.

To focus on his studies, Ashish took a break from acting and completed his bachelor’s in IT after finishing Plus 2. During this period, he worked as an assistant director and in the writing team for some series and music videos.

After completing his bachelor’s, Ashish joined the Aarohan Gurukul Theatre to learn acting under Sunil Pokharel. There, he performed in street plays, and also in Gachhami under the direction of Sunil Pokharel and Kal under the direction of Rambhajan Kamath.

When the production team of Hostel 3 was conducting auditions for a role named ‘Shiv’, they offered Ashish the part. After liking the script, he showed interest in the role. After several auditions, Ashish was considered the best fit for the role of ‘Shiv’, and after his acting test was successful, he was given the role, as confirmed by the director, Sashan Kandel.

The movie’s script and associate direction have been handled by Madhav Sharma. The producers are Suresh Kandel, Karn Karki, and Govind Adhikari, with co-producers Shishir Gyawali, Anish Sigdel, Kundan Gupta, and Ganesh Magar. The executive producer is Shankar Koirala, and the line producer is Kosis Raj Khetri.

The cinematography is directed by Arjun Tiwari, the editing by Bikash Dahal, action direction by Himal KC, music by Arjun Pokharel, Almora Rana Upreti, Mahesh Gyawali, and Kiran Michael, and dance direction by Praveen Singh and Roshan Bishwakarma.

The movie will be distributed by Kafiya Films (Govind Shahi) in the Kathmandu Valley and RR Films (Rohit Kattel, Ratna Shrestha) outside the valley.
