Rajagunj Trailer Released, What Is In The Film That Has Reached Major Film Festivals Around The World?

The trailer for the film Rajagunj, directed by filmmaker and writer Deepak Rauniyar, has been released. On Monday, a three-minute long trailer was unveiled at an event in Kathmandu, which tells the story centered around the Madhesh movement that took place after the constitution was promulgated in 2072 BS.

The trailer depicts a police operation to rescue kidnapped lawmakers and the principal’s son from a school, which took place amidst the intense Madhesh movement. The trailer showcases the police’s strategy to find the two children and the challenges they face. A tense moment between actress Asha Magarati, who plays a police inspector, and actor Dayahang Rai also appears in the trailer.

At the trailer launch event, director Rauniyar described Rajagunj as the biggest film of his career. He said, “I had never made such a big film before. Over a thousand people, including artists, were involved in this film.” He also mentioned that the film was created in the context of 2015. With praise from international festivals, Rauniyar is confident that Nepali audiences will also enjoy the film.

The film is set to release on Chait 1. It features performances by Asha, Dayahang, Vijay Baral, Richa Sharma, Pashupati Rai, former Miss Nepal Nikita Chandak, Gaumaya Gurung, Pushpa Yadav, Aarti Mandal, Ghanashyam Mishra, Parmeshwar Kumar Jha, Neeraj Shrestha, and other actors.

The film has already made its mark in major international film festivals, including Venice, Hamburg, Busan, and Mumbai. In fact, Rajaganj had screenings at five festivals in the same month of Kartik. It also received a 10-minute standing ovation at Venice.

The prestigious American newspaper The New York Times included director Rauniyar in its list of the nine emerging filmmakers in the world. Brazilian author Paulo Coelho publicly praised Rauniyar as well.

The film is produced in collaboration with Adi Films, represented by director Rauniyar and actress Magarati; Basuri Films, represented by Rambabu Gurung and Maniram Pokharel; actor Dayahang Rai; and Tanhausser Gate, represented by Alan R. Milligan. In Nepal, the film will be jointly released by Tifulk and Banktesh Entertainment.
