Sydney – A Nepali Film Awards event is set to take place in Australia. The organization D Wise Entertainment is planning to host the Global Nepali Film Awards in Australia from May 28 to June 1. According to Ganesh Malla, the head of D Wise Entertainment, the event aims to promote Nepali cinema and tourism.
In recent years, the Nepali film market in Australia has been growing significantly. Many Nepali films are being screened in Australia on a regular basis, with some big productions earning tens of millions of rupees solely from the Australian market. This has played a key role in promoting the Nepali film industry while also helping boost tourism and audience engagement.
The awards ceremony will cover various categories in Nepali cinema. More than three dozen artists and filmmakers will participate, according to Ganesh Malla. However, only nominated actors, renowned technicians, film journalists, organizers, and industry professionals will be allowed to attend, ensuring an exclusive event. D Wise Entertainment has been actively organizing various programs in Australia.
The awards will be conducted in four phases: announcement, nominations, the awards ceremony, and a vote of thanks. A total of 18 award categories have been included. A jury panel consisting of senior filmmakers will finalize the nominations and winners. Categories include:
Best Film, Best Director, Best Story, Best Music, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Singer (Male & Female), Best Cinematographer, Best Editor, Best Background Score, among others.
Additionally, awards such as Popular Hero of the Year and Popular Heroine of the Year will also be presented.
A Lifetime Achievement Award and a Film Journalism Award, both with cash prizes, will be given to one veteran filmmaker and one distinguished film journalist, respectively.
The organizers will soon hold a press conference to announce the award categories, participating artists, jury members, and other details. They have also assured that the event will be organized professionally and with prestige, avoiding the commercialized nature of some recent award shows.
Film registrations have already begun for movies released in 2080 B.S. (2023-24). Ganesh Malla stated that Australian filmmakers, distributors, and citizens will also attend the event. The day after the awards, a panel discussion and interaction program will be held between foreign filmmakers and Nepali film professionals to discuss the state of the Nepali film market, audience engagement, and promotional strategies.
To ensure a successful event, the organizers are collaborating with film-related associations, government bodies, and sponsors.
