‘Rajagunj’ Actress Asha Magarati Nominated as Jury Member at Switzerland’s Prestigious Film Festival

Asha Magarati, the lead actress of the upcoming film ‘Rajagunj’, which is set to release on the 1st of Chaitra, has been nominated as an international jury member at the prestigious Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland. The organizers announced this news on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The Fribourg International Film Festival made the announcement of Magarati’s nomination through their website. This is a major achievement for actress Magarati even before the release of ‘Rajagunj’. In 2017, her performance in ‘Seto Surya’ won 4 awards at the same festival.

For the 39th edition of the Fribourg Festival, actress Magarati, British cinematographer Derek Hudson, and Swiss actress and pianist Anna Piere Jurcher have also been nominated as jury members in the narrative competition. This year, ‘Rajagunj’, featuring Asha Magarati in the lead role, will also have its premiere at the festival.

The 2025 Fribourg International Film Festival will take place from March 21 to 30 in Switzerland. After the release of ‘Rajagunj’ in Nepal on Chaitra 1, Asha will fly to Switzerland for the festival. Currently, she is busy promoting ‘Rajagunj’.

Alongside Asha, the film features performances by Dayahang Rai, Vijay Baral, Richa Sharma, Pashupati Rai, former Miss Nepal Nikita Chandak, Gaumaya Gurung, Pushpa Yadav, Aarti Mandal, Ghanashyam Mishra, Parmeshwar Kumar Jha, Neeraj Shrestha, and others.

The film has already made its mark at major international film festivals such as Venice, Hamburg, Busan, and Mumbai. In the past Kartik, it was screened at 5 different festivals in a single month. At Venice, the film received a 10-minute standing ovation.

The prestigious American newspaper The New York Times included director Roniar in its list of nine emerging directors from around the world. Brazilian author Paulo Coelho publicly praised Roniar’s work.

The film is produced by Adi Films, with director Roniar and actress Magarati, Basuri Films with Ram Babu Gurung and Maniram Pokhrel, actor Dayahang Rai, and Tanhausser Gate’s Alan R. Milligan contributing to the production. In Nepal, ‘Rajagunj’ will be jointly released by Tiflck and Banktesh Entertainment.
