The advance booking for the Nepali film ‘Anjila’, set to release this Thursday on the occasion of Holi, has officially begun.

Following an overwhelmingly positive response at its premiere in Kathmandu on Monday, cinema halls are showing great enthusiasm. Despite the ongoing successful screening of ‘Hostel 3’ and the release of other films simultaneously, theaters have allotted a good number of shows for ‘Anjila’.

As of Wednesday morning, ‘Anjila’ had secured more than 110 shows, with expectations of additional screenings by the evening, according to director Milan Chams. “Seeing the excitement and appreciation from the audience at the premiere, we are feeling very positive,” said Chams. “Beyond the number of shows, the main factor is the audience’s presence and their feedback.”

He also mentioned that ‘Anjila’ has received favorable show allocations not only in multiplexes but also in single-screen theaters. Since the release day coincides with Fagu Purnima, most theaters will operate only from the afternoon, with an increase in the number of shows expected from Friday onward.

The film portrays the struggles and successes of Anjila Tumbapo Subba, from her childhood to her journey in the world of sports. Anjila herself plays the lead role, alongside actors such as Sunil Thapa, Dayahang Rai, Bijay Baral, Sirjana Subba, Mao Tse Gurung, and Buddhi Tamang. The movie was filmed in Anjila’s hometown, आेtabare (Ilam), as well as in Jhapa and Kathmandu.

Director Chams expressed that, despite the challenges of making a sports-based film with limited Nepali resources, ‘Anjila’ will have a unique impact. Producer Prem Kumar Shrestha shared his hope that the film will inspire aspiring athletes, adding that Anjila’s real-life story is no less compelling than a movie script.

The film has already premiered in Hong Kong, Korea, the UK, the USA, Australia, Japan, and in Nepal’s Dharan and Kathmandu. Having received positive feedback from its pre-release screenings, ‘Anjila’ is expected to receive strong support from theater audiences as well.
