Released on the occasion of Fagu Purnima last Thursday, the film Anjila, based on the life of Nepal’s national women’s football team captain and goalkeeper Anjila Tumbapo Subba, has received an enthusiastic response from audiences. From its opening day, the film has seen significant footfall in theaters, steadily increasing its number of shows and reaching new heights of popularity.

According to distributor Karan Shrestha, the film initially started with 105 shows on its first day. Due to growing audience demand, the number of shows increased to 114 on Friday, 134 on Saturday, and over 170 by Tuesday. These figures highlight the strong audience reception and high demand for the film. Director Milan Chams stated that the positive response from the very beginning contributed to securing additional screenings.

Anjila vividly portrays the inspiring journey of Anjila Tumbapo Subba, who came to Kathmandu with the dream of becoming a professional football player despite facing difficult family circumstances. The film powerfully depicts her struggles before and after arriving in the capital. Her story has deeply resonated with audiences, with many becoming emotional while watching her journey unfold on screen. In the final moments of the film, many viewers were seen wiping tears from their eyes as they witnessed her rise to the captaincy of the national women’s football team.

This is the 11th directorial venture of Milan Chams, produced by Prem Kumar Shrestha. Interestingly, Shrestha, who also acts in the film, is regarded as Anjila’s ‘godfather.’ Anjila herself plays the lead role. The film also features Mao Tse Gurung and Dayahang Rai as Anjila’s father, while Sirjana Subba plays her mother. Sumin Gurung portrays her brother, and Sunil Thapa plays her coach. Additionally, the cast includes Buddhi Tamang, Vijay Baral, Manju Shrestha, and others.

Producers have revealed that the film grossed NPR 20.7 million within its first three days.

Currently, the song ‘Raat Kin Huncha Hajur’ from the film is highly popular. Sung by Thaneshwar Gautam and Shanti Shree Pariyar, the song features lyrics by Prabha Bartoula and music by Thaneshwar Gautam.
