The fourth edition of the Nepal Rural Film Festival (NERUFF) will be held from Baishakh 4 to 6.
This year, the festival will take place in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa. Organized regularly by Celebrity Nepal, the purpose of the festival is to promote tourism while bringing Nepali films to rural markets, as shared by the festival’s president, Raghunath Sapkota.
According to him, the festival will feature films based on Nepali indigenous rural themes. The festival will include documentaries, short films, feature films, and films in various languages.
The festival, with the theme ‘Our Village, Our Place, Our Language, Our Films,’ will showcase domestic short films, documentaries, feature films, and films in different languages created in rural settings. The jury team will screen selected films, and awards will be given to the best films.
Held annually for the past four years, the festival has focused on films that highlight unique rural subjects. Along with film screenings, there will be interactive sessions, workshops, and discussions on how to make films based on rural settings and which films can win the audience’s hearts.
The festival was first held in Laprak, Gorkha, the second edition was organized in Bhaktundebesi, Kavre, and the third edition took place in Ramechhap.
The main goal of the festival, as stated by Sapkota, is to attract audiences to Nepali indigenous films, cultivate the habit of watching films regularly, bring rural-themed films to a global audience, and promote the local language, art, culture, and tourism. The festival is in collaboration with the Film Development Board. Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa, will also host the 4th Municipal Cup Volleyball Tournament from Baishakh 2 to 6. The organizers believe such events play a significant role in promoting tourism in Rasuwa and help the district gain recognition both nationally and internationally.
