The movie Anjila, based on the life of Nepal Women’s National Football Team captain Anjila Thumbapo Subba, has attracted a massive crowd in theatres on its second Saturday.

According to director Milan Chams, the business on the second Saturday has nearly doubled compared to the first Saturday. The enthusiastic participation of the audience in theatres across the country clearly shows that the movie’s popularity is increasing day by day.

On Saturday, director Chams, producer and actor Premkumar Shrestha, co-producer Binod Agrawal, and Srijana Subba, who plays the role of Anjila’s mother, met with the audience at various theatres in Kathmandu.

At Ashtanaryan Hall in Kathmandu, a 1000-seat hall was fully booked throughout the day, and all shows across the country were sold out. The film, which had 105 shows on its release day, had more than 200 shows on the second Saturday of its second week.

Pleased with the film’s success, director Chams said, “I have never been this happy in my career as a filmmaker. I never imagined that Anjila would receive this much love from the audience. Even though there was a positive response and encouraging business from the first day, the number of shows and bumper business on the second Saturday has made us excited. The audience has been moved by the movie, and seeing how it is inspiring them makes the team’s hard work feel meaningful.” Chams also stated that there is no indication that the wave of the audience will stop anytime soon.

The movie is also being widely praised on social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, which is further boosting its popularity. This film seems to be on track to set new records in the Nepali film industry.

The movie is produced by Premkumar Shrestha, who also plays Anjila’s ‘Godfather’. The lead role of Anjila is played by Anjila Subba herself. The roles of Anjila’s father are portrayed by Mao Tse Gurung and Dayahang Rai, and her mother is played by Srijana Subba. Sumin Gurung plays her brother, while Sunil Thapa plays the coach. The cast also includes actors like Budhi Tamang, Vijay Baral, and Manju Shrestha.
