After facing accusations of being a monarchist, actor Deepak Raj Giri clarified on Facebook through a lengthy post that he is not a monarchist.
Following the chaos created by monarchists in the Tinkune-Koteswor area on Friday, the day before, a collective appeal was issued in the name of a citizen leader to support the monarchist movement, which included Giri’s name. Giri issued this clarification after his name was depicted as one of the signatories and he was portrayed as a supporter of the monarchists in Friday’s post.
In his Facebook post, he mentioned that after the 2046 revolution, he joined the Nepal Students Union, affiliated with the Nepali Congress, as a village secretary and district member, but after entering the field of acting, he completely left active politics.
He also mentioned that at different times he had supported figures like Prachanda, KP Oli, and Ravi Lamichhane on certain agendas. He clarified that currently, he is not affiliated with any particular political party.
Furthermore, Giri wrote in his post that a day before the movement, he had been invited to an intellectual gathering where the ongoing political polarization would be discussed, and he was asked to share his views. He went to the gathering and, as per his nature, expressed clear and positive opinions, stating that although there were problems, the country had not worsened as portrayed by the media. After sharing his views, he had tea and left. The next morning, he realized that he had once again been labeled a monarchist without his knowledge.
At the end of the post, he stated that the current situation was the responsibility of the republican leaders and urged them to govern the country properly.
In the post, he sarcastically mentioned that he considers all the leaders as kings.
This is the Facebook post by Deepak Raj Giri (only grammatical editing has been made).
“Today I am writing…
First of all, greetings from the royalist side to all of you!
Let’s not mention the disturbances caused by supporting the king during the 2046 movement.
My royalist journey officially started after 2046.
After the establishment of democracy in the country, the desire to engage in politics arose. I studied which ideas and parties to embrace, and finally chose the party of the now famous Sher Bahadur ‘Raja’. During this time, I became the village secretary and also a member of the Kathmandu district of the Nepal Students’ Union (NEBISUN). After almost a decade of following Sher Bahadur Raja, my journey shifted from politics to art, and all political activities were completely halted.
No involvement in any political activities!
Then came 2062/63, during which the country seemed to be in crisis. I was also influenced by the revolutionary energy of Prachanda and gave my support to him and other leaders, writing, speaking, and even walking against the then royal power!
At that time, once again, I became a royalist!
Then came the turn of KP Raja. I became a fan of his logical power and style. He was praised in many places. On the issue of the ‘chuchche map’, I supported him, and once again became a royalist.
Currently, even though I have no affiliation with any party, I have never let my democratic thought die! Now, let’s talk about the past…
On the exact day of the movement, I received a call. There was an intellectual gathering about the political polarization that has emerged recently. I was asked for my opinion.
After attending, as usual, I expressed my views clearly and positively! Though there are problems, the country hasn’t deteriorated as was promoted. I shared my thoughts, had tea, and left.
The next morning, I realized that I had again become a royalist!
Recently, Balen came, and I supported him in the elections! Then Ravi came, and I supported him too!
However, whenever new ideas or new people come in, they start attacking the republic, and democracy itself becomes endangered.
If a person’s way of governing is not good, does that mean they are against the republic or a royalist?
Your unhealthy competition has caused disillusionment among the people! The demand for the old king has increased due to your style!
In the end, you should manage the royal duties well! I still regard you as the king and can continue to support you and always remain a royalist!”
Good day!!
