An armed police personnel, accused of sexual abuse, has been found dead in custody. The deceased, identified as Revan Pachbhaiya Magar, was stationed at the 29th Jawalamai Battalion in Bhulwang, Raptigaupalika-1, Dang, and was discovered dead at the local police station in Ghorahi on Monday morning.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Arjun Timilsina, Magar was found hanging in a toilet, with his own shirt and a piece of rope. The body was discovered around 5 AM.
Magar had been arrested on November 7 for allegedly sexually abusing two minors, aged 8 and 14. Following the allegations, he and Assistant Havildar Bharat Roka Magar were detained and handed over to the District Police Office in Dang for investigation.
The allegations stemmed from an incident reported on October 10, where relatives of the two girls claimed they were assaulted by unknown individuals while playing on a swing near the Jawalamai Battalion. Despite lengthy investigations, police had not found any leads, which led local residents to protest by closing the Bhulwang market and surrounding the battalion.
In response to the protests, the armed police conducted their own investigation, leading to the detention of two suspects believed to be involved in the assaults.
