The makers of the film Jaar believe it will elevate the entire Nepali film industry. They claim that after Jaar’s release, the industry will rise to a new level.

Set to be released on Baisakh 26 (May 8), the film is strong in terms of subject matter, presentation, and technical aspects, according to director Phurba Chhiring Lama.

“In terms of content, we’ve chosen an important issue deeply rooted in Nepali society. That’s why I like to describe this as a story of every community,” said director Lama. “The technical aspects are equally strong. To ensure quality, some parts of the post-production were completed in India.”

He added that the actors worked extremely hard on the presentation. Rather than casting based on market popularity, the actors were chosen based on the demands of the story. Lama stated that they were mindful from the beginning to ensure no aspect of the film would be weak.

Produced by Feri Tail Pictures, Jaar is based on a historical story by writer Indra Bahadur Rai. According to director Lama, the film captures real events that occurred in Nepali society during the 1800s.

“We’ve taken cinematic liberty while working on Indra Bahadur Rai’s story. So while the story is powerful, we believe the visual storytelling of the film will be even more compelling,” he said. He added that Jaar is not just a film but also a documentation of Nepali society.

Writer Rai had penned the story based on real events that took place in the Nepali society during the 1800s.

The film stars Saugat Malla, Anoop Bikram Shahi, and actress Geetanjali Thapa in lead roles.

Geetanjali Thapa is a National Film Award-winning actress in India, recognized for her role in Liar’s Dice.

Directed by Phurba Chhiring Lama, Jaar is a collaboration between Hope Reels, LA Seven Stars, Baral Studio, and Kewa Production.

The film was shot in Sikkim, and its executive producers are Trilochan Pandey, Neeraj Rai, Nursang Bhutia, Jyoti Kshetri, and Pema Rinzin Lepcha.

The cinematography was done by Saravanan Elavarasu, editing by Akhilesh Rai, and music by Jhuma Limbu and Ganga Thapa.

According to the production team, Jaar will be released simultaneously in Nepal, India, and international markets. Distribution within Nepal will be handled by Apple Entertainment, Reach Entertainment, and FD Company, while Seven Seas Films will distribute it internationally.
