
Nepali suspense thriller film Khel is set to release nationwide on Baisakh 12. The film, which combines Nepali folklore, tradition, spirituality, and thriller elements, presents a story related to a group of friends staying in a hostel in Kathmandu for their studies. Through this film, actress Samapika Gautam is making her big-screen debut.
Having grown up performing in theatre, Samapika sees Khel as a significant turning point in her acting journey. Being on screen was not just an exciting experience for her but also a moment filled with valuable life lessons. She says, “I grew up watching many film professionals on screen. Now, seeing myself on screen, it’s hard to put that feeling into words.”
Having built artistic confidence through theatre, Samapika views her acting journey as an opportunity for learning and guidance. While there are technical differences between theatre and film, she has embraced both mediums equally. “When I get to express what I’ve learned, it brings me a sense of satisfaction,” says Samapika.
In the film, she plays the role of Isa, a young woman who loves her friends but is emotionally conflicted and unable to go against their wishes. Samapika finds similarities between herself and her character. “Some of our traits are similar, but there are differences that are visible on screen,” she says.
Samapika, who developed a desire to become an actor while watching television in her childhood, began her acting journey after completing her SLC and entering theatre. With the support and inspiration from her family, she ventured into the field. Through her school days, she recognized her inner artist by performing and making the audience laugh and cry. Her acting journey’s goal is not just to be seen on screen but to contribute to creating an artistic consciousness in Nepali cinema. She aims to establish herself as a versatile artist and work on diverse stories.
Directed by Anurag Pradhan and Aastha Shrestha, Khel is produced under the banner of Sirupate Cuts Pvt. Ltd.. The film is produced by Luis Raj Maharjan and Ashish Raj Maharjan. In addition to Samapika, the film also features performances by Suraksha Pant, Monica Thapa, Hena Nagarkoti, Nikita Acharya, Mithila Sharma, Sarita Giri, and Bhola Raj Sapkota.
