Pahari, Upreti, and Subedi Honored with ‘Haritara Awards’; Dhungana and Upreti Receive ‘Shree Durgadevi Punya Niraula Memorial Award’

Actor Tika Pahari and actress Reecha Upreti have been honored with the ‘Haritara Film Award’, while film journalist Bishnu Subedi received the ‘Haritara Film Journalism Award’. In a grand ceremony held in the capital on Thursday, Pahari was awarded for the year 2080 BS (2023 AD), while Upreti and Subedi received the award for 2081 BS (2024 AD). The film award includes a cash prize of NPR 25,000 each, and the journalism award carries NPR 10,000.

Chaired and patronized by Mahanoj Shamsher Jabara, the ‘Haritara Award’ is recognized as the first established film award in Nepal. It was initiated in 1995 (2052 BS) by social worker Mrs. Vijaya Rana (Taranani), who set up a permanent fund in the name of herself and her husband Hari Shamsher.

The event, organized by Parivartan Nepal, also presented the ‘Shree Durgadevi Punya Niraula Memorial Award’ and the ‘Parivartan – Special Honor for Filmmakers 2081’. The memorial award, which includes a cash prize of NPR 10,000, was given to artist and advocate Krishna Dhungana and director Samjhana Upreti Rauniyar.

Similarly, actors Rabindra Singh Baniya, director Amar Oli, actor JB Ruwali, actor Sabin Shrestha, actor Gopal Dhakal (Chhande), and actor Sunil Katuwal were honored with the ‘Parivartan – Special Honor for Filmmakers 2081’. Media professionals Tulsi Giri Bhavuk, Krishna Bhushal, and Kamala Joshi received the ‘Parivartan – Film Journalism Honor 2081’.

Speaking at the program, Parivartan Nepal president Mohan Niraula expressed pride in being able to honor film professionals and journalists who have made creative contributions in their respective fields.

Chief guest and Film Development Board chairman Dinesh DC emphasized the unique significance of the Haritara Award in the Nepali film industry. He shared that he himself had received the award in the past and considers it a special recognition in his career. Veteran actress Bhusundhara Bhushal and awardee actor Tika Pahari also highlighted the importance of the award in their addresses.

The award selection committee included Mohan Niraula, Sundar Shrestha, and Shantipriya. The event, chaired by Mayangka Rana Sirohiya, was attended by former Film Development Board chair Rajkumar Rai, veteran actresses Chaitra Devi and Mithila Sharma, veteran actor Shiva Shrestha, veteran singer Devika Bandana, former Artists Association president Rabindra Khadka, and other representatives from various organizations, film professionals, and journalists. The event was coordinated by Devendra Pandey and moderated by Madhavraj Kharel.
