Prakash Sayami to Direct Biopic on Legendary Singer Narayan Gopal After 25-Year Hiatus

Renowned director Prakash Sayami, known for successful films like Prithvi, Seemaana, and Avatar, is set to return to filmmaking. After a hiatus of nearly 25 years, Sayami is making a comeback to the director’s chair with a biopic on the legendary singer Narayan Gopal. He announced this project during the launch event of his book titled Swarsamrat Narayan Gopal, held in Pokhara this week.

Sayami, who began his directorial journey with the film Pirtee in 1990, last directed Hatiyaar in 1999. Since then, he has been more prominent as a critic and analyst in the field.

Sayami revealed, “I am working on a film based on my own book, Swarsamrat Narayan Gopal. This will mark my return to film direction.” He plans to produce the film using the traditional celluloid format, aiming to bring a classic touch to the project.

During the book launch, Sayami clarified that he had not given up on directing but had simply taken a break for some time. While active in filmmaking, he had also directed a Maithili film titled Hansa Chalal Pardesh.

In addition to his contributions to cinema, Sayami has made significant strides in literature, with over 11 books published in both Nepali and English. He is well-versed in the lives of renowned artists and musicians worldwide.

This upcoming biopic under Sayami’s direction is expected to bring the life and struggles of the iconic Narayan Gopal back to the silver screen, capturing the essence of the legendary singer’s journey.
