The Pradeep Shahi-directed film Gorkha: Beneath the Bravery, which premiered last year, is set to release in a Spanish-dubbed version on Amazon Prime.
Renamed as 1915 Legend of the Gorkhas, the movie will be available in 90 countries via Amazon Prime. Previously released in English, the film had screenings in the USA, UK, Australia, South Korea, Taliban, and Japan.
The movie is based on the true story of Kulbir Thapa, the first British Gorkha to receive the Victoria Cross. It portrays the sacrifices, compassion, and camaraderie of the Gorkhas. The entire film was shot in the UK.
On September 25, 1915, British forces launched a major offensive in Loos, France. During this battle, Kulbir Thapa, a 26-year-old rifleman from the Second Battalion, Third Queen Alexandra’s Own Gorkha Rifles, was seriously injured. Despite his injuries, he survived. From September 26 onward, Thapa began rescuing wounded soldiers. His bravery and dedication led him to become the first Gorkha awarded the Victoria Cross.
Produced under the banner of Shai Production, the film stars Sameer Gurung, Gaumaya Gurung, Stuart Walker, Agostino Oberhofer, Oli Bassi, Robin Friberg, Rajan Gurung, Surya Gurung, and Syon Shahi, among others. The movie, Gorkha: Beneath the Bravery, directed by Pradeep Shahi, has already garnered attention with its unique narrative.
Pradeep Shahi, who has been residing in the UK for a long time, is actively working to promote Nepali cinema on an international scale.
Another film directed by Shahi, Eklō, has completed shooting and is currently in post-production, according to executive producer Binod Suvedi Kshitij. Eklō features a star-studded cast, including Pradeep Khadka, Benisha Hamal, Vijay Lama, Sunil Thapa, Diya Pun, Dinesh DC, Suraj Singh Thakuri, Aavin Raj Upreti, Kavita Nepali, Truchu Rai, Krishna Bhakta Maharjan, Vikas Adhikari, Diggaj Khatri, Binod Suvedi Kshitij, Srishesh Shrestha, child artist Jevin Shrestha, and Syon Savik Singh, alongside British actor Jamie Bacon.
