Tulsi Ghimire’s upcoming film Pahad has sold its distribution rights to Seven Seas and Venkatesh Entertainment. The Nepal distribution rights have been acquired by Venkatesh Entertainment, while the international rights are with Seven Seas.

Scheduled to begin filming on January 17 (Magh 3), the movie will be shot in Kathmandu, Gorkha, and Mumbai, India.

The cast includes Madan Krishna Shrestha, Bipin Karki, Barsha Raut, Sunil Thapa, Ravindra Singh Baniya, and Arun Kshetri.

Pahad is considered Ghimire’s dream project, presenting the story of remote hill villages emptied due to the outmigration of young people.

“The government asks youth to stay in the country, but society pushes them to go abroad and earn money,” Ghimire said, elaborating on the story. “Those who leave are seen as successful, but those who return appear disheartened. The real question is—what can be done by staying in the country? We are presenting this story in a way that resonates with the times.”

Ghimire has directed numerous iconic Nepali films such as Bansuri, Kusume Rumal, Lahure, Anyaaya, Koseli, Chino, Dui Thopa Aansu, Deuta, Dakshina, Mitjyu, Rahar, Balidan, Darpan Chhaya, Sahit, Lahana, Dui Kinara, Swarga, and Darpan Chhaya 2. He is regarded as one of Nepal’s most successful filmmakers.

Produced under the Bhagyaratna Films banner, the film is estimated to have a budget of 3.5 crores NPR.

The film is slated for release in May (Jestha), according to distributor Manoj Rathi. “We will confirm the exact release date after the shoot is complete,” Rathi said. “We are making this one of the most remarkable films in Nepali cinema.”
