Madan Puraskar-winning author Dhurba Chandra Gautam has often taken the stage to share his experiences. He has answered numerous questions at various events. However, on Friday at Kathmandu Utsav, for the first time, he appeared in the role of a questioner. His guest, who had to respond to his queries, was businessman and writer Basanta Chaudhary at an event held at the Nepal Tourism Board.

The conversation with Chaudhary, who has penned songs sung by renowned Indian artists Kailash Kher and Shreya Ghoshal, naturally began with music. Recalling his last meeting with Narayan Gopal, Gautam asked,
“Many famous singers from Nepal and India have performed your songs. Did you never feel like having Narayan Gopal sing one?”

In response, Chaudhary said,
“I never considered myself mature enough to write a song for Narayan Gopal.”

Known for his wit, Gautam jokingly added,
“Perhaps Narayan Gopal never asked you for a song. But in my case, even when I offered, he didn’t sing it!”

The discussion primarily revolved around Chaudhary’s literary journey. He shared,
“Art and literature have always drawn me more than business. The reactions I receive from people after hearing my poetry and songs bring me more fulfillment than anything else.”

A businessman who has also invested time and money in journalism, Chaudhary revealed his deep passion for the field. Besides business and journalism, he has explored multiple literary genres, including poetry and songwriting. Gautam asked him which literary form he felt closest to.

Chaudhary responded,
“Poetry is the closest to my heart.”

Despite his love for poetry, Chaudhary made an exciting revelation during the event—he publicly announced the title of his upcoming novel for the first time: Devayani.

He further disclosed that the novel is based on the true story of a friend.
