Karnali International Film Festival Starts

The Karnali International Film Festival has grandly started today. Organized by Red Cherry in collaboration with the Film Development Board, the festival will take place in Karnali on Falgun 25 and 26.

The inauguration of the festival was done by the Chief Minister of Karnali Province, Yam Lal Kandel. Special guests included former Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, former State Minister Kunti Sahi, former Minister Ramkumari Jhankri, Chairman of the Film Development Board Dinesh D.C., actor Pradeep Khadka, and the writer and director of the movie ‘Pujar Sarki’, Vikas Suvedi.

The festival director, Chakra Bahadur Chand, mentioned that the purpose of the festival is to promote Karnali as a film tourism destination.

On this occasion, an official agreement was signed for the shooting of the movie ’26 Crore’ in Karnali, directed by Vikas Suvedi.
Additionally, the former President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Bhavani Rana, CEO of Muktinath Development Bank, Pradhumna Pokharel, artists, filmmakers, and local intellectuals were also present.

As part of the festival, the ‘Gurans Film Dialogue’ program will be organized tomorrow in Gurans Rural Municipality. The dialogue will discuss the future of cinema in Karnali Province, the potential of local narratives, and regional film development.

The festival, organized in collaboration with the Film Development Board, is expected to play a significant role in establishing Karnali as a prominent filming location for both Nepali and international films.

The organizers claim that special efforts will be made to incorporate the region’s unique stories, natural beauty, and cultural heritage into Nepali films.
