
The second day of the second Karnali International Film Festival was grandly concluded in Guras Village Municipality of Dailekh district in Karnali Province.
The festival was organized to promote Nepali cinema, its development, and to highlight the potential of cinema tourism, with the Karnali region as the focal point. Various activities were carried out linking cinema and tourism, from cities to villages, during the occasion.
This festival has taken special initiatives to increase tourism development and cinema-related activities in Karnali. The Chief Guest at the festival was Ghanshyam Bhandari, the Minister of Social Development of Karnali Province.
Considering the geographical landscape and tourism potential of the area, discussions were held on the possibility of developing it as a film shooting location.
Special guests at the festival included Dinesh D.C., Chairman of the Film Development Board, renowned actor Pradeep Khadka, writer of films like ‘Prakash’ and ‘Puja Sarkhi,’ and the director of the new Karnali-based film ‘26 Crore,’ Vikas Suvedi, along with key personalities like the Municipality Chairman Top Bahadur Bisi and author Dr. Mahendra Kumar Mall.
During a deep discussion on the potential of cinema tourism, actor Pradeep Khadka emphasized the importance of film production for the development of cinema tourism in the Guras area. He expressed his commitment to promoting Karnali globally through cinema as an ambassador of goodwill, highlighting the need to brand the region’s productions.
Dinesh D.C., Chairman of the Film Development Board, emphasized the necessity of taking concrete steps for the development of cinema in Karnali and its surrounding areas, expressing confidence that discussions like these would yield significant results. He also committed to providing the necessary support from the Film Development Board.
Along with cinema tourism, an agricultural promotion discussion program was also held during the festival. Executive Director of Muktinath Agriculture Company Bharat Dhakal, Director of Muktinath Development Bank Narayan Kumar Shrestha, local farmers, and stakeholders discussed the role of local government, contributions from the federal government, and issues related to collaboration and investment in agriculture.
In the discussion, Muktinath Group expressed its willingness to collaborate and invest in the agriculture sector. Guras Village Municipality Chairman Top Bahadur Bisi and Vice Chairman Shiva Khadka also expressed their commitment to collaborating for the promotion of cinema and agriculture.
The festival’s director, Chakrabahadur Chand, mentioned that the festival was organized with the goal of establishing Guras as a destination for cinema tourism. Municipality Chairman Bisi emphasized the need for collaboration for the overall development of Guras.
Under this festival, on Chaitra 16, the ‘Karnali International Cinema Tourism and Climate Award Ceremony’ will be held at Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu, and on Chaitra 30, the ‘Rara Cinema Tourism and Climate Summit’ will take place at the Rara Lake premises in Mugu.
The festival has raised the issue of global problems like climate change in the context of Karnali. It is expected that the festival will play an important role in raising awareness about climate conservation through the cinema sector.
The festival is believed to have a positive impact on the tourism, agriculture, and cinema development of Karnali.
