The fourth edition of the Nepal Rural Film Festival (NERUFF) is set to take place this coming Baisakh.
Organized by Celebrity Nepal, the festival aims to promote tourism and expand the reach of Nepali films to rural markets. According to festival chairperson Raghunath Sapkota, this year’s focus will be on films based on authentic rural Nepali stories.
Sapkota announced that film registration for the festival is now open. The festival will include documentaries, short films, feature films, and films representing various languages and cultures. Organized under the slogan “Our Village, Our Place, Our Language, Our Films,” the festival will prioritize locally produced films reflecting the rural setting.
Films selected by the jury will be screened using state-of-the-art technology. Outstanding films will be honored with special awards.
The Nepal Rural Film Festival has been held annually for the past four years. The first edition was organized in Laprak, Gorkha, followed by Bhakundebesi, Kavre, and the third edition in Ramechhap.
In addition to film screenings, the festival will host discussions and workshops on filmmaking in rural contexts. The event aims to globalize films based on rural stories while promoting local languages, arts, culture, and tourism.
According to Sapkota, the Film Development Board has collaborated on this festival. The primary goal is to encourage rural-themed films, attract audiences to authentic Nepali cinema, and foster a culture of regular film viewing in rural areas.
