Statue of Minakumari Rana Unveiled and Road Named in Her Honor; Three Recognized for Excellence

Bhaktapur. On the occasion of the third death anniversary of the late Minakumari Rana, a program was held where the naming of Minakumari Rana Marg, located next to Ganesh Basic School in Suryabinayak Municipality-3, Bhaktapur, was conducted, along with the unveiling of her statue.

The chief guest, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress and Member of Parliament, Gagan Thapa, and special guest, Federal MP, Durlab Thapa, unveiled the statue.

During the program, Tilak Prakash Kayastha was awarded the Democracy Fighter Award with a cash prize of 51,001 rupees, Shri Acharya received the Senior Journalist Award with the same amount, and Prachanda Sharma was awarded the Senior Player and Coach Award. Additionally, a scholarship of 51,001 rupees was handed over to the outstanding students of Adarsha Secondary School in Sano Thimi, Bhaktapur.

Chief guest Thapa highly praised the life and contributions of the late Minakumari Rana, mentioning that her dedication to democracy and social service serves as an inspiration for the new generation.

Speaking about the contemporary political situation, Thapa stated that while there have been some reforms in the constitution, fundamental changes are unlikely, and the process of government change through periodic elections should be viewed as a natural process.

Special guest MP Durlabh Thapa recalled the late Minakumari Rana as a skilled, cultured, and politically insightful personality. Nepali Congress central committee member Madan Krishna Shrestha remembered how Minakumari Rana’s demeanor always provided energy to those around her.

Advisor of the institution and senior journalist Harihar Birahi praised Rana’s family management and leadership during the democratic movement, expressing concern about the current deviation of democratic parties. Among the awardees, Tilak Prakash Kayastha emphasized that youth must play an interventionist role within the party.

A five-member award selection committee was formed for the program. The committee included the institution’s president Kabir Rana, senior litterateur Dr. Dhrubachandra Gautam, senior journalist Harihar Birahi, Democracy Fighter Mathwar Singh Basnet, and General Secretary Ravi Rana as members.

The president of the institution, Kabir Rana, recalled the contribution of the late Minakumari Rana and stated that organizing such programs on her death anniversary is a responsibility of the family. General Secretary Ravi Rana welcomed the guests and remembered the contributions of his mother.

On the first death anniversary of Minakumari Rana, Dr. Ramvaran Yadav honored senior litterateur Dr. Dhrubachandra Gautam, journalist Harihar Birahi, Democracy Fighter Mathwar Singh Basnet, and coach Madan Gurung. On the second death anniversary, President Ramchandra Paudel honored Lekhnath Nyaupane, journalist Kishor Nepal, and coach Prakash Thapamagar.

The Minakumari Rana Foundation has been organizing such inspiring events every year to preserve the legacy of the late Rana. The foundation’s president, Kabir Rana, mentioned that this tradition will continue in the coming years.
