Nearly 30 years ago, Deepak Prasad Ghimire had briefly acted in theater with dreams of becoming a “hero” or an “actor.”

Now, he is set to enter the film industry as a producer. He is making his debut as a producer with the film Juna: Ek Byatha, which is set to release on Magh 25 (February 8).

While he was busy with his government job, director Jivan Century unexpectedly visited Ghimire’s office in Satdobato with the script of Juna: Ek Byatha. Jivan had reached out to him through a mutual acquaintance.

“That brother told me he had a great script and urged me to produce a film. At first, I didn’t pay much attention, but after he visited multiple times, I was moved by Jivan’s dedication and passion for cinema.

He told me that filmmaking was everything to him, and he planned to secure his career and investment through films.

His commitment convinced me, and I agreed to produce the film,” says Deepak. He became particularly interested when Jivan explained that the film would focus entirely on the issue of child marriage.

Interestingly, Deepak never read the full script before agreeing. “More than the script, I believed in Jivan’s confidence. He was dedicated to filmmaking from morning to night, and I was sure he would create something meaningful.

I always wanted to enter the film industry, and when I found a determined director like Jivan, I saw this as the perfect opportunity,” Deepak reveals.

After deciding to produce the film, he registered a production company named Godavari Film Production & Research Pvt. Ltd. Through this company, Juna: Ek Byatha was brought to life. Deepak, who is interested in social-message films, hopes to create more impactful movies in the future.

Jivan convinced Deepak by assuring him that the film could be screened in schools, municipalities, and even in international markets.

“We showed the film to the Ministry of Education, where I watched it in full for the first time. That was the moment I truly understood Jivan.

The film turned out much better than I had expected, and it eased my worries.

Since Jivan and I come from different geographical backgrounds, I initially had some doubts, but after watching the film, all my fears disappeared,” Deepak shares.

When it comes to films, star power often plays a crucial role. However, Juna: Ek Byatha features mostly new faces, with only a few experienced actors.

“Big stars usually bring commercial films, which made it a bit challenging for us to release our movie.

Since we focused on content-driven storytelling, we first held special screenings in municipalities, rural areas, and schools.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. When we saw how emotionally moved the audience was, we became confident in our film’s success,” Deepak states.

Because the film features grassroots actors, Deepak considers it a natural and authentic piece of cinema.

Deepak describes Juna: Ek Byatha as a story of mothers aged 45 to 70. “My own mother gave birth to me at 14, following child marriage, just like in the film. Juna: Ek Byatha is the story of every mother,” he says. “After watching this film, children will realize that child marriage is wrong, and some may even question whether marriage is necessary at all. The pain and injustice women suffer due to child marriage are deeply explored in this film, making it relatable for audiences of all ages.”

Produced by Deepak Prasad Ghimire and directed by Jivan Century, Juna: Ek Byatha stars Asmita Dhakal, Krishna Prasad Dhital, Deshbhakta Khanal, Rashmi Bhatt, Kamal Bohora, Asmita Basnet, and Khagendra Neupane.
