The 4-minute-5-second-long trailer of ‘Basanta’ was released on Saturday during an event in the capital.

The trailer presents the story of how caste-based discrimination and untouchability prevalent in Nepali society create fear among people.

It highlights how the conservative Nepali society reacts to an inter-caste relationship between school-aged teenagers. The film also connects this issue to Nepal’s history of conflict, as seen in a scene where Swastima Khadka appears as a Maoist guerrilla fighting against caste discrimination.

Through this film, Prakash seems to be portraying how societal beauty can turn cruel and ugly due to caste-based divisions.

The trailer hints that the film aims to depict the realities of Nepali society. In one scene, Anup Baral, playing a police officer, says, “People are not afraid of the law, but they fear superstition. Superstition is above the law.” To this, Prakash responds, “Sir, even above human life?”

This dialogue suggests that the film will deliver a powerful and impactful story.

Film Releasing on Chaitra 22 (April 4, 2025)

Set to release simultaneously in Nepal and abroad, the film stars Prakash Saput, Swastima Khadka, Prabhat Pal Thakuri, Shri Shivanshi, Urmila Lamgade, Khadka Bahadur Pun (Khabpu), Anup Baral, Kamalmani Nepal, Prakash Ghimire, among others.

Produced under the banner of Galbandi Productions, this social drama has been written, scripted, and scored by director Saput himself. The film tells the story of a young boy from the marginalized Bishwakarma community who dreams of becoming a writer and struggles to achieve his goal.

The film is produced by Mohan Bishwakarma and Bindu Bohora, with Anurodh Bhattarai, Nana Thakali, and Birendra Narayan Shrestha serving as executive producers.

Shot in various locations, including Prakash Saput’s hometown Baglung, Kathmandu, and the Terai region, the film has been cinematographed by Susan Prajapati. DCN will distribute the film in the Kathmandu Valley, while FD Company will handle distribution in other regions.
