Actress Supushpa Bhatt, who began her film career with Ranveer, has mostly portrayed bubbly characters up until her recent film Feri Resham Filili. However, in the upcoming film Pitambar, set to release on Chaitra 29, she appears in a rather different role.

In Pitambar, Supushpa plays a character named Bihani. “Bihani is a widow and is innocent. To know how she becomes a widow, you have to watch the film,” says Supushpa. “The kind of character I’ve been wanting to do is in Pitambar. This character has phases and a graph—you understand what’s happening from where to where through Bihani.”

Supushpa’s debut film Ranveer was action-based. “Though Ranveer and Pitambar share the same genre, the stories are different. You’ll see a completely different side of me in this character,” she says.

She agreed to do the film after co-producer Purushottam Pradhan narrated the script to her. “I hadn’t initially planned to do this film. But once I heard the script, I couldn’t say no. The one-liner and my character really pulled me in,” Supushpa reveals.

After acting in Pitambar, Supushpa feels she gained some understanding of a widow’s life. “In Nepali society, living as a widow seems very difficult. It must be really hard when you don’t have someone who truly loves you. I understood a few things after working on this film. Nowadays, women are taking a stand for themselves—they are rising,” she says.

She considers herself lucky to be part of a multi-starrer like Pitambar. “At first, I wasn’t sure if I could do justice to my role. But in a multi-starrer, I got enough space for my performance, and I felt fortunate. I feel proud to be among so many talented actors,” she says. “But there’s definitely pressure. All the actors deliver strong performances. I was afraid that my performance might fall short. But once you’re prepared, that fear goes away.”

In Supushpa’s view, filmmaking becomes easier when the person in charge has a clear vision. “Rather than focusing on whether a director is male or female, what matters is their direction. If someone has a good vision, it’s easier to make a film. I got to work with a director who knew what kind of film they wanted to make, and that made it easier for me,” she says.

Supushpa also expresses her desire to work in action films. “I want to perform action scenes myself. That’s something I’ve wanted from the beginning. If such a film offer comes my way, I’ll decide based on the script and my character,” she says.
