On the occasion of Constitution Day, October 3rd, the team behind this year’s hit film Khushma has announced their new film, Jalaki. Directed by Ashok Thapa Magar, the film’s title motion poster was released on Friday, officially announcing the film’s production.

The film’s shooting began on Friday at the Kalika Bhagwati Temple in Baglung, after a traditional shubh muhurat (auspicious time) ceremony held at the Bindhyabasini Temple in Pokhara. Based on a triangular love story, Jalaki stars actor Sonam Topden, famous for Shambala, alongside Upasana Singh Thakuri, Astitya Bhattchan, and Aakriti Rajbhandari in the lead roles. Aakriti Rajbhandari, who gained popularity with the song “Bardali” by singer Sushant KC, makes her debut in Jalaki.

The word Jalaki symbolizes a stone pillar, representing the faith of the Magar community, and is considered a symbol of remembrance and love. Director Ashok Thapa Magar revealed that the film’s shooting will take place in three phases, including locations in Rukum, Magdi, Baglung, Pokhara, and even South Korea. The film will highlight the culture of the Magar and Gurung communities.

Jalaki is being produced under the banner of M Media Pvt. Ltd., with producers Om Ghatri Magar, Veer Bahadur Lama, Chandra Bahadur Bhattchan, Betane Magar (Babita Rana), Man Bahadur Dhanah Magar, and Susmita Budathoki.

The film will also feature performances by Mao Tse Gurung, Buddhi Tamang, Sangita Thapa Magar, Raju Regmi Magar, Khadka Bahadur Pun (Khabapu), and others. The production team has indicated that the casting process is still ongoing for a few more roles.

The film’s DOP (Director of Photography) is Shailendra D. Kaki, with Raju Regmi Magar as the line producer, Mahesh Baral as the main assistant director, and music by SD Yogi and Sarit Rai. The lyrics will be written by Surendra Rana and Ram Aviral Bista.

Director Ashok Thapa Magar’s previous film, Khushma, had a historic record when its song “Rukum Maikot” became the first Nepali song to reach 10 million views on YouTube within five months.
