The trailer of the film ‘Jaar’, based on a story by renowned literary figure Indra Bahadur Rai, has been released.
The two-minute-long trailer was unveiled on Thursday during an event held in Kathmandu. It offers a glimpse into the storyline of the film.
Scheduled to release on Baisakh 26 (May 8), the trailer suggests that the film explores the theme of jaar culture.
The word ‘Jaar’ refers to “the man with whom a married woman elopes, as called by her first husband.” However, the story revolves around a situation where the woman has not yet eloped, but the decision is almost final — capturing that emotional and social tension.
‘Jaar’ is considered one of the most widely read and discussed stories by Indra Bahadur Rai. Written nearly 63 years ago, it portrays the social fabric of Nepali society during the Rana regime.
Saugat Malla, Anoop Bikram Shahi, and Geetanjali Thapa play the lead roles in the film.
Phurba Tsering Lama is the writer and director of the film.
Produced by Fairy Tale Pictures, the film has Neeraj Rai, Nursang Bhutia, Jyoti Kshetri, and Pema Rinzing Lepcha as executive producers.
Geetanjali Thapa, who won the Indian National Film Award for The Liar’s Dice, makes her debut in Nepali cinema through ‘Jaar’. She has been actively working in Indian films and web series.
