Nepali film Anjila has successfully maintained impressive box office performance even on the Saturday of its fifth week of release. Nearly 50 shows are being screened across theaters in Kathmandu and other parts of the country, with significant audience presence reported in most of them.
Since Falgun 29, over a dozen Nepali and foreign films have been released, but Anjila’s business remains largely unaffected. Thanks to its strong storyline, powerful direction, and impactful performances by the cast, the film has continued to be a favorite among audiences. Anjila is turning into one of the most stable performers at the Nepali box office.
Although it was released toward the end of last year, Anjila has managed to secure a spot among the top five Nepali films. The movie’s box office performance has shown little to no decline, indicating that it may continue screening for weeks to come.
The film is based on the life of Angila Tumbapo Subba, captain of Nepal’s national women’s football team, with Angila herself playing the lead role. Director Milan Chams said that the emotional connection between the audience and the film stemmed from the relatable story of Angila’s struggles. “The love and support we’ve received from the audience has been very encouraging. Angila’s story helped people form an emotional bond with the film. We’re planning to continue the screening for a few more weeks,” Chams said.
Alongside Angila, the film also features performances from Prem Kumar Shrestha, Sunil Thapa, Dayahang Rai, Bijay Baral, Sirjana Subba, Mao Tse Gurung, Sumin Gurung, and Buddhi Tamang.
