Under the main slogan “Our own village, our own place, our own language, our own cinema,” the Fourth Nepal Rural Film Festival, organized by Celebrity Nepal, will take place from April 16 to 18 (Baisakh 4–6). The films officially selected for the festival were awarded certificates during a pre-event program held on Wednesday at the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu.
The event’s chief guest was Dinesh DC, Chairperson of the Film Development Board. The program also featured the unveiling of the official souvenir of the Rural Film Festival. Other attendees included Janakdeep Parajuli, President of the Directors’ Society; Shantipriya, senior journalist; Kuber Giri, Vice-President of the Film Journalists Association of Nepal; as well as many filmmakers and journalists.
According to Raghunath Sapkota, President of Celebrity Nepal, the festival showcases films based on rural themes. For the past four years, the Nepal Rural Film Festival has been screening short films, documentaries, and feature films—made in rural settings and often in districts without movie theaters—using modern technology. The festival also presents awards to outstanding films.
Chief guest Dinesh DC, in his address, remarked, “The very name ‘Nepal Rural Film Festival’ is special. Bringing cinema to audiences in their own localities makes this event particularly meaningful.”
The first edition of the festival was successfully held in Lapraka, Gorkha, drawing thousands of spectators. The second edition took place in Bakhundebesi, Kavre, and the third was organized in Ramechhap Municipality. This year, the festival will be held in Dhunche, Rasuwa, under the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, according to Sapkota.
Kamal Ekche Magar is the festival coordinator. The jury committee is led by filmmaker Rishi Lamichhane, with Raksha Singh Rana and Shailesh Shrestha as members.
In addition, the Gosaikunda Rural Municipality Chairperson’s Cup Volleyball Tournament will be held alongside the festival. The closing ceremony will also feature a musical performance.
