Hubert Bals Fund Awards €60,000 Grant to Nepali Film Ek Muthi Badal for Post-Production

The Nepali film Ek Muthi Badal: My Share of the Sky has secured post-production funding from the prestigious Hubert Bals Fund (HBF + Europe) in the Netherlands.

Under this grant, the film will receive €60,000, equivalent to approximately 8.7 million Nepali rupees.

Produced collaboratively by Nepal’s Gauthali Entertainment and Germany’s Third Culture Kids and Chromosome Films, A Muthi Badal is the first female-centered international co-production film from Nepal. Local production houses Man Production and Underground Talkies are also involved, with Anup Paudel, Samipya Raj Timalsena, and Nikun Shrestha as producers.

Set against the backdrop of marriage, Ek Muthi Badal tells the story of a young woman who dreams of freedom within the confines of home and societal expectations. The film explores the conflict between her desire for independence and the social expectations imposed upon her. According to the production team, the film highlights the sacrifices, struggles, and contributions of women in Nepali society who fulfill the role of homemakers.

The cast includes Nisha Sharma, Shekhar Chapagain, Aanchal Sharma, Usha Rajak, Manish Nirola, Sahyog Adhikari, Gaurav Bisht, Aviral Pratap Adhikari, Bhima Mainali, and Ashmita Gautam. The film is directed by Sahara Sharma, who expressed her happiness at receiving this post-production support.

The film has also been selected for the Locarno Open Doors Consultancy, the Indian Cinema Market, and the West Meets East Screenplay Lab in Dhaka.
