On the special occasion of Republic Day, the production team of the upcoming Nepali film Mahabhoj, slated for release on Jestha 15, has unveiled an emotional video dedicated to mothers.
The released video showcases powerful performances by actor Dayahang Rai and veteran actress Basundhara Bhusal. In the video, Bhusal expresses deep emotions while reminiscing about her late son, while Dayahang portrays affection toward her, treating her like his own mother. In a touching scene, Bhusal hands Dayahang some money, to which he playfully responds, “I’ll spend it,” prompting Bhusal to express her trust in his honesty. The video suggests that the money is intended for deposit into a cooperative institution.
In the film’s teaser, Dayahang is seen portraying the chairman of a cooperative society, facing the anger of depositors. Actor Khagendra Lamichhane, playing a depositor, confronts Dayahang, declaring, “Not just the one who kills, but the one who forces others to die is also a murderer.” Both the teaser and this newly released video hint at a gripping and intriguing storyline.
A message displayed in the video reads:
“In honor of all mothers, heartfelt greetings on the special occasion of Mother’s Day (Mata Tirtha Aunsi) from the Mahabhoj family. Our deepest respect and tribute to all mothers — symbols of unwavering love, boundless sacrifice, and eternal inspiration.”
Directed by Dinesh Raut, Mahabhoj vividly portrays the reality of class struggles and the family, social, and moral pressures created by money in Nepali society. According to the director, the film focuses on characters fighting for their existence and self-respect.
Produced under the joint banners of Clock Work Creation and Picture Frame, the film’s producer is Himal Kadel, with the story and screenplay penned by Subedi.
The cast includes Aryan Sigdel, Dayahang Rai, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Gaumaya Gurung, Malika Mahat, Basundhara Bhusal, Mohan Niraula, Buddhi Tamang, Kamalmani Nepal, Pushkar Gurung, Binod Neupane, Abha Aryal, and Birendra Singh Kushwaha.
