Saugat Malla, the lead actor of the film Jaar, comes face-to-face with a tiger. According to the script, there is a scene where he confronts the beast.
In the original story written by Indra Bahadur Rai, the main character is dragged away by a tiger. Without this scene, the film would feel incomplete.
Therefore, it had to be included at any cost. If not, those who have read the story Jaar would surely feel the film lacks something essential.
That’s why director Phurwa Chhiring Lama decided to include it. However, there was no alternative to using VFX (visual effects). So he decided to rely on VFX.
“At first, I wondered if it was even possible because outsourcing the work to a studio would cost at least 80 to 100 million rupees,” Lama said. “But we chose to work with freelance VFX artists instead.”
Even then, it cost about 20 million rupees, Lama shared. According to him, a total of 37 freelance VFX artists worked on the tiger scene over an extended period.
The 8-minute-long scene features VFX artists who have previously worked on Hollywood movies like Game of Thrones and Mission: Impossible.
The film Jaar is set to release on Baisakh 26 (April 2025).
Based on a story that is 225 years old, Jaar is adapted from a historical tale by renowned author Indra Bahadur Rai.
Rai had set the plot of his story in the early 1800s.
Though Jaar, produced by Tail Pictures, is rooted in a social theme, director Lama claims it is a complete package. He is confident that the film will win over audiences.
The lead roles in Jaar are played by Saugat Malla, Anup Bikram Shahi, and actress Geetanjali Thapa, among others.
The film was shot in Sikkim, with production support from Hope Reels, LA Seven Shorts, Baral Studio, and Kewa Production.
The executive producers of Jaar are Trilochan Pandey, Niraj Rai, Nursang Bhutia, Jyoti Kshetri, and Pema Rinzin Lepcha.
Cinematography is by Saravanan Elavarasu, editing by Akhilesh Rai, and the music is composed by Jhuma Limbu and Ganga Thapa.
Jaar will be released simultaneously in Nepal, India, and international markets. Distribution within Nepal is handled by Apple Entertainment, Reach Entertainment, and FD Company, while international distribution will be managed by Seven Seas Cinema.
