Shatkon Arts, the banner established through the ‘Jatra’ film series, has announced its new film ‘Lalibazar’.
After producing ‘Jatra’, ‘Jatrai Jatra’, ‘Mahapurush’, and ‘Mahajatra’, and earning the trust of both audiences and exhibitors, the banner is now collaborating with an external director for the first time.
The film is written and directed by Yam Thapa. It is being produced by Rabindra Singh Baniya and Max Dipesh Khatri, with Pradeep Bhattarai serving as the executive producer.
Producer Baniya shared that the collaboration with director Thapa began while Shatkon Arts was in search of a script.
He said, “We were in discussions with other writers and directors. We didn’t want a good story to be deprived of an audience, so we held talks with a few writers and directors. During that process, the script sent by director Thapa caught our attention. He had initially offered the script to us, but we requested him to direct it himself.”
Along with the film announcement, producer Baniya also revealed a “minimal poster” prepared by Royal Bhimsen (Trident Concept).
The poster introduces the character without revealing the actor’s face. In the conceptual minimal poster for ‘Lalibazar’, the design of the title text features a roughness and a distinct style, with a red dot presented as a ‘tikuli’ (traditional forehead adornment), hinting at hidden conflict or story within the title itself.
A traditional bangle is sketched in a circular shape with floral patterns. Inside the circular bangle, a bright red lipstick is shown standing upright, while a bullet lies horizontally. According to Bhimsen, this combination of elements carries a deep symbolic meaning, and the birds flying out of the circular bangle evoke a sense of hope and freedom.
Producer Baniya stated that the casting process for ‘Lalibazar’ is currently underway. He informed that the film’s shooting will commence right after the upcoming Dashain festival. ‘Lalibazar’ is the fifth film solely produced by Shatkon Arts. In addition, the banner has collaborated with others on films such as ‘Talakjung vs Tulke’, ‘Dakinī’, and ‘Super Monk’.
