The short musical film Kotha has been released.
The film was launched during an event held at Everest Film Academy in Kathmandu on Saturday. Produced by Art Ghar, Kotha has been crafted by Bhishma Joshi.
Based on Joshi’s story and concept, the film explores the psychology of young people renting rooms in Kathmandu while searching for their future. It depicts the experiences of a young man from a rural area who arrives in Kathmandu with dreams in his heart. Director Joshi showcases a blend of the past left behind in the village and the desires discovered in the city.
The film features the voice and music of popular contemporary singer and composer Prashant Siwakoti, who has combined modern and folk tunes, including the Deuda melody. At the event, Siwakoti remarked, “Though I am from Jhapa, I have tried to sing the Deuda tune from the Far West through Kotha. I believe everyone will appreciate our new musical offering.”
Director Joshi shared that the song and film reflect his own experiences and emotions as he transitioned from village life to the city. He is confident that the musical film will resonate with many Nepali audiences.
The musical film stars newcomer Praveen Kumar Pandey in the lead role, supported by Sabi Thapa, Saroj Khadka, Kalpana Shahi, Sheetal Pandey, Santosh Bista, Srishti Ayr, Sagar Bhusal, and Anil Dahal. The cinematography is by Saroj Shrestha, while the editing was done by Riden Shrestha and Dhiraj Adhikari.
Kotha also includes lyrics by director Joshi and poet Dev Brat. Previously, Joshi released Samaya ra Umer through Art Ghar.
