The Kathmandu District Court has issued an interim order to stop the screening of the film ‘Actor: Take One’ starring Pradeep Khadka.
The court has summoned both parties for a discussion on Magh 22.
Yajamani Nyaupane, the legal representative on behalf of the petitioner Nepal Diaspora Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., provided information about the court’s interim order. The order is mentioned to be directly published on the court’s website.
On Tuesday, a single bench led by Judge Dhakaram Poudel issued this order.
The makers of ‘Actor’ had filed a writ petition in court on Friday, requesting to stop the screening of ‘Actor: Take One’. The film, directed by Rajan Bhusal, was set to begin screening on Wednesday.
There has been an ongoing dispute between the two films regarding the name for some time. In the writ petition, a request for appropriate compensation based on copyright infringement has been made.
The writ petition lists the Film Development Board, the production companies Adrit Films and Moti Films as the defendants. The petition alleges that the name of the film was copied exactly, with the intention of making it appear original, and that legal provisions were violated by using the name and storyline in an unlawful manner.
Additionally, the petition requests the court to issue an order to prevent the screening of ‘Actor: Take One’ by any means or platform (such as in cinemas, digital media, or on television).
