
The film Purna Bahadurko Sarangi, which was released on Kartik 15, is currently dominating the Nepali box office.
According to the box office collection figures released by the film’s production team and distributors, the film has broken records in the history of Nepali cinema. It has achieved the highest number of shows for a Nepali film and set a record for the highest single-day gross. With over 470 shows currently running, the film holds approximately 75% of the total shows across the country.
On the second Friday, the film earned NPR 2.99 crores, followed by NPR 3.89 crores on Saturday, setting a new single-day revenue record. Previously, Kabaddi 4 held the record with a first-day gross of NPR 2.9 crores. As of the second Saturday, Purna Bahadurko Sarangi has grossed nearly NPR 18 crores at the box office, reaching a total of NPR 17.98 crores in just 10 days. The film has been drawing audiences to theaters from as early as 4 AM until 11 PM, yet tickets are reportedly still hard to come by.
The film, based on the story of the Gandharva community, features Prakash Saput in the role of the son of Vijay. It portrays the emotional bond between a father and son. The film gained significant attention due to its popular “Kandhe Kuri” song, along with its teaser and trailer going viral on platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
Directed and written by Saroj Poudel, the film stars Bijay Baral, Anjana Baral, Prakash Saput, Mukun Bhusal, Maotse Gurung, Binod Neupane, Shankar Acharya, Buddhi Tamang, Deshbhakta Khanal, Bhola Raj Sapkota, Alisha Bastola, Shyam KC, Sarita Shah, and Janavi Poudel. The screenplay and dialogues were penned by Mahesh Dawadi.
The film is presented by Seven Seas Cinema and Bansuri Films, with Binod Poudel and Patrick Subedi as producers, and Ramesh Chaulagai, Hari Shrestha, and Ramesh Dhakal as executive producers. The story highlights the struggles of the Gandharva community, with music composed by Prashant Siwakoti, sarangi played by Hemanta Kanchha Rasaili, and vocals by Prashant Siwakoti, Melina Rai, and Pushpan Pradhan.
